The Diocese of Owo, Anglican Communion, has called on Hon. Timehin Adelegbe to restrain his media aides following their recent statements regarding comments made by The Rt Revd Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi, PhD, during a remembrance service for the Late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, at the Cathedral Church of St Andrew, Owo, on December 27, 2024.
In a press statement signed by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Adesoye Ajayi, the Diocese expressed gratitude for the patience and wisdom demonstrated by Bishop Fagbemi amidst the controversy. The statement clarified that the Bishop’s remarks were intended as constructive admonition, encouraging self-reflection and growth, rather than as personal attacks.
The Diocese noted that the accusations against the Bishop reflect a broader societal issue of moral decline, which the Church continues to address. It called on elders within the Diocese who have close ties with Hon. Adelegbe to advise him on the need for his media aides to exercise caution in their statements.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of support for Bishop Fagbemi’s leadership and a prayer for continued divine guidance in his episcopacy.
