Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo East Local Government Area have demanded a rotational arrangement for the House of Representatives seat in the Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, citing 24 years of continuous marginalization.
In a communique issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held at Bolodunron, the council headquarters, party leaders and stakeholders unanimously resolved that the Member of the House of Representatives (MHR) position must rotate, beginning with Ondo East in the 2027 general elections.
According to them, the demand is long overdue and necessary to correct what they described as historical political imbalance.
The meeting, which was presided over by the APC Chairman in Ondo East, Hon. Olamigoke Busayo, brought together a wide coalition of stakeholders, including women and youth leaders, ward chairmen, councillors, and past and serving local government officials.
Participants noted that Ondo West has held the federal constituency seat for 24 unbroken years since 2003, following the tenure of late Hon. Oladejo Akinnifesi from Ondo East, who served between 1999 and 2003.
They stressed that such dominance by Ondo West has left Ondo East without fair representation in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly—an imbalance they say contradicts the inclusive principles of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s “Our Ease” Agenda.
The leaders, therefore, appealed to President Tinubu, Governor Aiyedatiwa, and the APC leadership at both national and state levels to support their call for equity and justice by ensuring Ondo East produces the next House of Representatives member in 2027.
The meeting concluded with a firm resolution to pursue the rotational agenda as a pathway to political balance and party unity in the constituency.
Prominent figures at the meeting included: Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Olamide Adesanmi Oladiji; APC State Secretary, Hon. Mrs. Roseline Okafor; Executive Chairman, Ondo East LG, Hon. Joshua Fola Ogunduyilemi; Chairman, Ondo North East LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Adebayo; Vice Chairperson, Ondo North East LCDA, Hon. Mrs. Tennyson Akinfolarin; Leader of Ondo East Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Adeniyi Adeoye; alongside ward chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, councillors, and political elders.
